Dispute at banquet hall event ends with man fatally shot, CMPD says

A banquet hall gathering in University City turned deadly when one attendee pulled a gun and started shooting, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

It happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of University City Boulevard, which is home to S&D Banquet Hall. The site is just southeast of East W.T. Harris Boulevard, maps show.

“Officers discovered one victim with life-threatening injuries who had sustained a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to a local hospital before pronouncing the victim deceased,” CMPD said in a July 7 news release.

An event was scheduled at the time, and the shooting is believed to involve attendees who knew each other, CMPD said.

Investigators are working to determine if the shooting was related to an ongoing dispute.

Details of a suspect have not been released.
