Huntersville police to unveil ‘Cop Cab’
Huntersville police on Wednesday will unveil their newest initiative to help people think twice before driving drunk.
“Cop Cab” looks half like a Huntersville squad car and half like a yellow taxi cab.
Police departments across the country use cop cabs in bar and entertainment districts. The cars usually carry the message, “Choose Your Ride,” i.e., a cab ride home or a much more expensive trip to jail for driving while intoxicated.
Huntersville police are teaming up on the initiative with Yellow Cab of Lake Norman, Toyota Scion of North Charlotte, The Sign Source and other local businesses.
Police have called a news conference for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Blythe Landing, off N.C. 73 on Lake Norman, to discuss the car in more detail and how it will be used.
The car is an educational effort in conjunction with the current Booze It and Lose It campaign, police said. Later Wednesday, Huntersville police will host a multi-jurisdictional DWI checkpoint.
