Inmate found dead in cell 60 miles east of Charlotte

An inmate was found hanging in her cell Wednesday afternoon at Southern Correctional Institution, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said.

The department said Dominique Worrell, 26, was found hanging at about 3 p.m. and was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later from an apparent suicide, the department said.

Worrell was serving four years for assault with a deadly weapon, larceny and felony breaking and entering. She was convicted in Wake County.

Southern Correctional Institution is about 63 miles east of Charlotte. The Troy Police Department is investigating Worrell’s death., the department said.
