Three charged with DWI at Huntersville checkpoint

Huntersville police arrested three motorists on charges of driving while impaired at a DWI checkpoint late Wednesday on N.C. 73 near Blythe Landing at Lake Norman.

The checkpoint was in conjunction with the statewide Booze It & Lose It campaign that runs through Labor Day.

Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Cornelius Police Department and Mecklenburg County ABC assisted at the checkpoint.

Four drug charges were issued, along with two citations each for driving while license revoked and having no operator’s license.

Earlier Wednesday evening, Huntersville police unveiled a “Cop Cab” they’ll station around town to discourage people from driving while impaired.

The Cop Cab looks half like a yellow taxi cab and half like a Huntersville police car.
