Iredell man accused of raping child
An eastern Iredell County man was arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a child under age 16.
Sheriff’s investigators charged Michael Adrian Bennett, 50, with eight counts of statutory rape of a child and four counts of indecent liberties with a child. Bennett was in the Iredell County jail Wednesday on $250,000 bail.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said Bennett was arrested after the child was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center in Statesville. The child was interviewed there after a report was filed about the child being assaulted, Campbell said.
