Man charged in Conover homicide
The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Conover Police Department after a double shooting left a man dead and a woman in stable condition in the hospital.
Conover police said the shooting happened just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. The call to authorities was reportedly a domestic situation involving a gun.
When officers arrived at 609 3rd St. Place SW, they found 25-year-old Michael Beltran shot to death and 28-year-old Lisa Vanhoogen suffering from a gunshot wound.
Vanhoogen was immediately rushed to Catawba Valley Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Officers arrested and charged Daniel Robert Williamson, 25, with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He was jailed without bond.
Police said Williamson and the victims knew each other.
Police said Beltran was from Vale and Vanhoogen from the Hickory area.
