Suspected heroin dealer arrested after police pursuit
A suspected heroin dealer led police on a pursuit through Indian Trail, Stallings and Matthews Tuesday night before his car was stopped by tire deflation devices put on the road by officers.
The pursuit began when the car sped from a Union County sheriff’s deputy and ended on South Trade Street in Matthews, where the driver, Stephen Allan Roberts, 35, of Charlotte, was arrested.
Union County sheriff’s investigators said they returned to Indian Trail, where witnesses saw something thrown from the car during the pursuit, and found $1,200 worth of black tar heroin in a container.
Roberts was charged with trafficking heroin by possession, trafficking heroin by transportation, possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, felony speed to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, and a number of lesser traffic charges and misdemeanor violations.
Roberts was jailed on $280,000 bail pending a court hearing Thursday.
Roberts was out on bond for pending drug trafficking cases from 2011, 2014 and 2015 in Mecklenburg County.
