Victim in east Charlotte shooting identified

The man who was fatally shot Saturday night at a home in east Charlotte was identified Sunday as Melvin Ashby, 26.

Ashby was shot about 7:45 p.m. at a home in the 5500 block of Lantana Avenue, off North Sharon Amity Road, by someone he knew, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Investigators detained and were interviewing the other person involved, police said.

Medic pronounced Ashby dead at the home. On Friday, police had responded to the same home regarding a domestic disturbance involving Ashby.

Police said they determined that no crime had been committed Friday, and those at the home told officers they needed no further assistance.
