Man shot dead north of uptown
A 41-year-old man has been identified as the person who was shot dead just north of uptown Sunday night.
The shooting happened around 7 p.m. on Vanderbilt Road, between North Graham Street and Statesville Avenue in the Metro Division a few minutes from uptown.
David Reginald Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found Griffin inside, dead from a gunshot wound.
Some of Griffin’s family members had made their way to the scene by 8:30 p.m.
Lt. Will Farrell told reporters that investigators were canvassing the neighborhood, trying to get a better picture of what happened before the shooting.
Police encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters can also call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak directly with a homicide investigator.
