Authorities arrested and charged two Lincoln County Detention Center inmates in the beating of a cellmate as he slept early Wednesday.
Inmate Jeffrey Todd Crouse, 27, of Lincolnton, was punched repeatedly in his face about 1:30 a.m. and had some of his teeth knocked out, sheriff’s investigators said. He was treated by jail nursing staff.
Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Matt Lykins charged inmates Kendrick Chazz Prather and Tyreke Deshawn Alexander, both 18 and of Lincolnton, with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
“We take our inmate safety very seriously and try to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law when there is a violation,” sheriff’s Capt. Tim Johnson said in a statement announcing the arrests.
