A York man was charged with assault and battery after authorities say he hit his daughter’s boyfriend in the head with a shovel.
The incident happened about 2:40 a.m. Saturday at a home on the 1000 block of McAfee Court in York.
York County deputies went to the home after dispatch received a call during which men and women could be heard screaming before the caller hung up, according to a sheriff’s report. A woman who answered the door told deputies there had been an argument, and allowed them inside.
The 28-year-old victim was sitting on the couch with blood on his shirt and head, deputies said. The victim said he and his girlfriend were in the yard arguing when her father, 42-year-old Eric Dwayne Rollins, came out and hit him in the head with the shovel, the report states.

Rollins denied hitting the victim. He told deputies they got into a physical altercation, and that the victim “must have hit his head on something in the yard.”
Deputies found a shovel on the ground with fresh blood on it, the report states. The victim identified it as the one Rollins used to assault him.
Rollins’ daughter corroborated the victim’s story, and said she grabbed her father to keep him from hitting the victim a second time, deputies said. When Rollins tried to hit the victim again, his daughter bit him on his left side, at which point he went inside the home.
Rollins was charged with second-degree assault and battery. He was placed in the York County Detention Center and later released on bond.
