Police identify man shot dead in parking lot

Police have identified a man found shot and dying in the parking lot of a northwest Charlotte apartment complex.

Rakeem Shamar Massard, 25 was pronounced dead in the 1800 block of Grier Grove Road near Fred Alexander Park around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. WSOC-TV reported that the shooting happened as children were getting off a school bus.

Police responding to a shots fired call found Massard lying in the parking lot. They canvassed the apartment complex to try to find witnesses to Massard’s shooting, but have not released the name or a description of a suspect late Wednesday.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) to speak directly to a homicide detective. People with information can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
