Man arrested in northwest Charlotte homicide

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Rakeem Shamar Massard, 25, who was found in the parking lot of a northwest Charlotte apartment complex.

Early Thursday, police announced the arrest of Radi Saleem Meyers, 36, on charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Meyers was arrested without incident and jailed without bail.

Police are not saying what led to the shooting but that Massard and Meyers knew each other.

Massard was found in the 1800 block of Grier Grove Road near Fred Alexander Park around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. WSOC-TV reported that the shooting happened as children were getting off a school bus.
