Domestic violence awareness march scheduled for uptown

For the second time in as many weeks, the Domestic Violence Advocacy Council is organizing a march on the Square in uptown Charlotte on Thursday in response to a domestic violence-related homicide.

Alexia Mayfield, 23, was shot to death on Oct. 2 as she babysat her 2-year-old niece. Her ex-boyfriend, Immanuel Felton, 25, was charged with murder.

Mayfield was the seventh domestic violence-related homicide in Charlotte this year, according to the council – more than double the number for all of 2014.

Thursday’s march is scheduled for 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Trade and Tryon streets. Free parking is available at the Hal Marshall County Services Center at 700 N. Tryon St.
