Drug deal ends in shots fired, SWAT situation
A drug deal that soured led to a SWAT situation in southwest Charlotte on Tuesday.
The incident started around 1 p.m. on Archdale Drive about a block west of the light rail station.
Officers were summoned by a man who told them he’d met up with several people to trade cash for drugs. During the drug deal, the man got frightened and ran away on foot.
The suspects shot at him but missed and the victim called 911.
Police say information at the scene led them to believe that one of the suspects was inside an apartment on Archdale Drive. Officers relocated people in nearby apartments, established a perimeter and requested the SWAT team. No one was injured.
Images from the scene taken by the Observer’s news partner, WBTV, showed an armored SWAT vehicle on scene alongside several police cars.
SWAT negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect several times. Then the SWAT team and police dogs entered the apartment but did not locate anyone inside.
Police have not released the name of a potential suspect. They say the investigation is ongoing.
