Report: Man pointed shotgun at Rock Hill police

Police say a Rock Hill man pointed a shotgun at officers who were responding to gunshots in the area Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 9 p.m. on the 300 block of North Jones Avenue. Tyler Hoffman, 26, had a shotgun in his hands and pointed it at officers, at which point an officer discharged his service weapon at Hoffman, according to a police report.

Hoffman went back into home, which police surrounded, the report states. Hoffman later exited the home but still had the shotgun in his hands.

Officers ordered Hoffman to drop the weapon, with which he complied, police said. He resisted when police tried to take him into custody, and an officer deployed his stun gun on Hoffman.

Hoffman was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and pointing and presenting a firearm, the report states. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he was awaiting a bond hearing Thursday morning.

The case is still under investigation by Rock Hill Police and the State Law Enforcement Division.
