Man shot in neck outside Cleveland County home

A man was shot in his neck outside a home on Washburn Road in Cleveland County Tuesday morning, sheriff’s deputies said.

The man told officers he went outside to get in his vehicle when he was shot. The man was taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

Deputies are searching for two people who may have gotten into a vehicle after the shooting.

Neighbor Zachary Moss said the victim came into his home after being shot.

“They was hollering, ‘Help, help, I been shot! Somebody call 9-1-1,’” Moss said.

Moss said he and his family waited with the man while paramedics rushed to the scene.

“There's a lot of blood in the house,” Moss said.

He said the neighborhood is usually quiet.

Cleveland County sheriff’s Lt. Mark Craig said the public should be alert to the assailants.

“It’s reasonable to think that they might be scared, but we’re on the case,” Craig said. “We’re working on the situation. Hopefully we’ll have somebody arrested.”

Authorities have not said what they believe led to the shooting or released any names.
