2 in custody in connection with 3 Gaston County robberies

Gastonia police said they have two men in custody in connection with three robberies on Thursday morning.

The assailants left each robbery in a black Dodge Dart that hit a tree on Johnston Street at about 10 a.m., police said.

Police captured one of the men on Johnston Street and the other man on nearby Seigle Avenue.

Police said they will release the names of the suspects once charges are filed against the men.

Police said they captured the men less than 10 minutes after a third robbery of the morning. That robbery was at the Gaston Inn, in the 1400 block of East Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia.

The first robbery occurred at 6:30 a.m. at the Kangaroo Express in the 2400 block of East Franklin Boulevard. Police said the robber pushed the clerk against the wall and took cigarettes and the clerk’s purse. The suspect displayed a handgun. He wore a yellow shirt and a black-and-blue wrap on his head.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the Citgo/Times Turnaround in the 200 block of Beatty Drive in Mount Holly was robbed. The robber wore an orange shirt and a blue-and-white shirt wrapped around his head.

The robber asked the clerk for an item and then displayed a handgun and demanded money, Mount Holly Police Chief Don Roper said.

Police have not released details of the Gaston Inn robbery.

No injuries were reported in the robberies.
