Police seeking driver of truck that killed cyclist, left scene

A bicyclist in Burke County was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision.

The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Old Highway 18 just south of Interstate 40. Officials have not released much information, including the victim’s identity, but confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers told WBTV that the victim was a 55-year-old man who was riding his bike home from a nearby store.

Troopers said they are searching for an “older-model” white pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet, that they believe was involved.
