Officer struck by vehicle on I-77 while chasing person on foot

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was struck by a vehicle Monday while chasing a person on foot on the interstate. The officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

The incident happened Monday night on I-77 near Clanton Road. Police said officers were conducting a traffic stop on Clanton when a person jumped from a vehicle and ran down the off-ramp headed toward the freeway.

Officers said a car pushed another car into the officer, who was then taken to a local hospital.

The officer’s name and the extent of her injuries have not been released. But police said she is expected to be OK.

Officials have not said why officers pulled the vehicle over or if any charges are being filed.
