2 arrested in man’s shooting early Thursday in Gastonia
Two Gaston County men have been arrested in connection with a shooting early Thursday that left another man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Joviniano Cuevas Hernandez, 24, of Ranlo has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of 25-year-old Andres Santiago Garcia.
Nicolas Justo Cortez, 22, of Gastonia, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Thursday in an apartment on the 2600 block of Pembroke Road, police say.
The officers who responded found an unresponsive man, later identified as Garcia, who had been shot in the head. Garcia remains at Carolinas Medical Center with what police called “serious life-threatening injuries.”
