Two shootings Saturday night in Charlotte region
Authorities were investigating two shootings Saturday night in the Charlotte region, including one at the southbound Interstate 85 rest area in Cabarrus County, near Kannapolis.
The shooting happened at about 8:45 p.m.
The state Department of Transportation said the rest area will be closed until about 11:45 p.m. as police investigate.
A dispatcher for the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a shooting had taken place but said no other details were available.
Charlotte Mecklenburg police, meanwhile, were investigating a shooting off University City Boulevard near East Mallard Creek Church Road.
The shooting happened outside an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Police said the victim was in the hospital but that no other details were available.
Medic reported at about 8:30 p.m. that the victim had left in a car before emergency officials arrived at the scene.
