A teenager remains in critical condition Tuesday after being shot in a road rage incident in the University area of Charlotte, authorities said.

Late Monday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identified the victim as 19-year-old Dejanae Gilliam of Charlotte. Gilliam showed up at Carolinas HealthCare System University with an apparent gunshot wound, reported WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.

Gilliam lives on Forty Niner Avenue, records show. She is not a student at UNC Charlotte, a university spokeswoman said.

The incident took place at about 4 p.m. in the 800 block of Pavilion Boulevard, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. That's about 2.5 miles from the UNCC campus.

Initial reports had the incident at a different location following a verbal altercation.

CMPD did not disclose other information about the incident, but said it was not related to the university.
