Gaston County police names new chief
The Gaston County Police Department announced Wednesday that Assistant Chief Joseph Ramey is the department’s next chief.
Ramey, a Cramerton native who lives in Gastonia, has served on the force in various capacities since 1994. He was promoted to assistant chief in 2011.
Ramey replaces James Buie, who retired after 30 years. Ramey was appointed to the post at Tuesday night’s meeting of the county commissioners, said police Capt. W.S. Melton.
