Intruder shot, killed in Gaston County home invasion, police say

An intruder was shot and killed during a home invasion in Bessemer City on Tuesday, police said.

Someone broke into a home on East Texas Avenue about 6:30 p.m. and confronted the homeowner with a gun, according to police. The homeowner and the burglar fought, and a gunshot went off.

The burglar was shot and ran from the home, but was found a short time later and taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, where the person died during surgery.

The burglar’s name has not been released because police are waiting to notify the family.
