Lincoln authorities charge NY man in connection with child sex assault case

Lincoln County authorities said Wednesday they have charged a New York man and former softball coach in connection with a child sex assault that happened in 2009 and 2010.

Frederick Solomita, 49, of Long Beach, N.Y., was charged with statutory rape of a 13, 14 or 15 year old by a defendant at least six years older than the victim, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

In August, the office received a report from the victim of a sexual relationship when the victim was 13 or 14. The incidents happened in 2009 and 2010, the sheriff’s office said.

At the time, the office said, Solomita lived in Denver, N.C., and was a coach on a girl’s softball team. Authorities did not say whether the victim played on his team.

Solomita turned himself in on Tuesday and is in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bail.
