Police: York registered sex offender jailed for robbery, conspiracy
A registered sex offender from York remains jailed after being charged the day after Christmas in a robbery where the victim fired a shot at his attackers, according to police reports and records.
Bruce Allen Buckner, 54, was charged Saturday with criminal conspiracy and robbery and is being held under a $15,000 bond, York County jail records show.
The alleged victim in the case told deputies a woman he knew knocked on his door in Sharon in western York County Dec. 16 before a man, who was unknown to him, “came barging into his house,” fought with the victim, and took his wallet that had $1,600 in it, according to information filed by deputies in a sheriff’s office report.
The victim told authorities the woman and man fled and he fired a shot at the pickup truck that was fleeing. A neighbor called 911 after hearing the shot, according to the report.
Police collected evidence at the scene including DNA swabs, the report said.
Deputies later stopped a truck matching the description in York, which police said was being driven by Buckner. Buckner told police he had rented a room at the York Motor Lodge for a week and had been with a woman he picked up in Gaffney in Cherokee County.
After police saw that someone had used Buckner’s cell phone to call the victim four times earlier, Buckner then stopped answering questions, police said.
The sex offender registry compiled and kept by the York County Sheriff’s Office lists Buckner as a sex offender with two past convictions for sex crimes, and also does not list the motel as his residence, online records show.
