Police: Man shot at them during SWAT situation in Mint Hill
A man is in custody after police said they were shot at during a SWAT standoff in a Mint Hill apartment complex Saturday morning.
Mint Hill police said Edward Allen Wold Jr., 41, shot at them when they were called to his apartment on Stoney Trace Drive near the Charlotte-Mint Hill line.
A woman had called 911 crying, then hung up just before 3 a.m.
When the first officer arrived and went to open an outside door, police said, Wold started shooting at the officer. When backup arrived, they were shot at as well, police said.
An officer shot back but did not hit
Wold. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s SWAT team was called and set up a perimeter. A few hours later, a negotiator got Wold to leave the apartment.
No one was injured, police said.
At one point, police asked that people stay clear of the area but later let residents into their apartments.
Neighbors said a man was randomly shooting a gun in the area before officers arrived, but police have not released more information.
