Nursing assistant accused of sexual assault of resident at Mooresville assisted living facility

An employee at a Mooresville assisted living facility has been accused of sexually assaulting a resident.

Police charged Ernest McDonald Beatty Jr. with three counts of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree sex offense. He was being held at Iredell County Jail late Tuesday with bail set at $300,000.

The alleged sexual assaults happened at Crown Colony Assisted Living, on Commercial Drive in Mooresville, about two miles from the city’s downtown. Beatty was a licensed certified nursing assistant at the facility.

Investigators have not said whether Beatty is suspected in any other assaults at the facility, which offers medical and living assistance for elderly clients. No one answered the phone at a number listed for the facility Tuesday night.
