Police seek driver in hit-and-run that put woman in hospital
Police are looking for the driver of an SUV that struck and seriously injured a woman in southwest Charlotte Tuesday night, then sped away.
The collision happened around 9:23 p.m. at Yorkmont Road and South Tryon Street. A 39-year-old woman was attempting to cross Yorkmont when she was truck by a silver or light gray SUV.
The driver stopped and backed up to see what was hit, “then fled down Yorkmont Road (toward) Tyvola Road,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release.
The woman, whose name has not been released, has serious, life-threatening injuries.
A witness described the vehicle as a newer, small SUV, possibly a Mazda of a Nissan. It might have had factory-tinted windows and could have damage to the front center of the vehicle. The hood, bumper, grille and windshied could also be damaged.
Detectives are reviewing video footage from nearby areas to get more information about the vehicle and its driver. They encouraged anyone with information about the collision to call Det. Kevin Allred at (704) 336-8862 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
