Iredell County man accused of sexually assaulting a child over 6 years

An Iredell County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the sexual assault of a child over six years.

Joseph Francis Sexton, 54, of Olin, was charged with indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sex offense with a child. He was jailed on $225,000 bail.

The child was assaulted from age 5 to 9 from 2003 to 2008, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday.

A complaint about the assaults was filed with the sheriff’s office on Dec. 14, and investigators interviewed the victim at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center in Statesville.
