Car overturns in uptown Sunday after hitting city bus

A driver whose vehicle collided with a city bus early Sunday in uptown was likely under the influence of alcohol, investigators say.

The man’s car overturned on North Tryon Street near East Sixth Street after impact. The Charlotte Area Transit System bus was not in service, and the bus driver was able to leave the scene.

The wreck occurred shortly after 1 a.m., according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner. Damage to the bus appeared to be minimal.

The identity of the driver has not been released, and the man escaped serious injury. He was taken to a hospital and later released.
