Cherryville hunter faces more charges in man’s shooting
A Cherryville man who was charged in December with shooting a man who tried to repossess his vehicle was jailed this week on additional charges in the case.
Nathan Monroe Myers, 39, turned himself in at the Lincoln County Magistrate’s Office on Monday and was jailed on $50,000 bail, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
The latest charges are attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
On Dec. 8, Myers was perched on a tree stand while hunting when he saw his vehicle being hooked to a tow truck, the sheriff’s office said. Myers fired his .308 hunting rifle at the truck, and the bullet hit Ernest Brown, 30, of Lawndale in the side, deputies said.
Brown and his brother Elijah, 22, drove about two miles to a location on Cat Square Road and called 911. Lincoln County EMS took Ernest Brown to Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln for treatment.
Myers was arrested at the scene. After being interviewed by authorities, he was charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into an occupied conveyance in operation and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Myers must appear in Lincoln County Superior Court on Feb. 4.
