Man accused of sexually assaulting teen at Lake Norman State Park

A 51-year-old Iredell County man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old at Lake Norman State Park and a home on Hamptons Cove Road in Troutman.

Sheriff’s investigators charged Byron Bernard Knox with three counts of statutory sex offense. Knox was jailed on $75,000 bail.

The assaults happened between May 1 and Dec. 17, Sheriff Darren Campbell said. Investigators filed the charges after interviewing the victim at Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center in Statesville and finding and interviewing other witnesses, Campbell said.
