Mount Holly pedestrian hit by pickup dies Thursday

A pedestrian who was hit by a pickup truck while crossing South Main Street in Mount Holly on Tuesday night has died of his injuries.

Gerald Scott Meggs, 67, of Mount Holly died about 4 a.m. Thursday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Mount Holly police said.

“The Mount Holly Police Department would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gerald Scott Meggs,” police said in a news release.

Meggs was hit shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of South Main and Rose streets. The pickup was traveling north on South Main, police said.

The driver didn’t stop, leaving Meggs severely injured in the road, investigators said.

Meggs was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police continue to ask the public for help in identifying the pickup and its driver. The 2004-2008 pickup might have damage to its front passenger corner and side mirror, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Holly Police Department at 704-827-4343 or Gaston County Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
