S.C. man arrested in death of Mount Holly pedestrian
Mount Holly police arrested an S.C. man in last week’s hit-and-run death of pedestrian Gerald Scott Meggs.
Police on Friday charged Jerry Christopher Pruitt, 52, of Moore, S.C., with felony hit and run resulting in death. Pruitt was in the Gaston County Jail on Saturday on $100,000 bail.
Meggs, 67, of Mount Holly, was hit by a pickup truck while crossing South Main Street shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday. He died early Thursday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Meggs was hit near the intersection with Rose Street. The pickup was traveling north on South Main. The driver didn’t stop, leaving Meggs severely injured in the road, investigators said.
