Officer assaulted at Lanesboro Correctional Institution

A correctional officer at Lanesboro Correctional Institution in Polkton was treated at a hospital and released after being assaulted by an inmate about 1:40 p.m. Saturday, said Keith Acree, spokesman for the N.C. Department of Public Safety.

An investigation has begun, but no charges had been filed as of late Saturday, Acree said.

Polkton, in Anson County, is about 45 miles southeast of Charlotte.
