Charlotte man sentenced to 10 years for robbery and carjacking
A Charlotte man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a 2014 armed robbery and carjacking.
Davonte Antonio Smith, 24, pleaded guilty in May 2015 to each offense.
According to court records, Smith arranged to buy a pound of marijuana from the victim in the parking lot of a Sam’s Mart in Charlotte. Smith and an unnamed conspirator instead hit, robbed and carjacked the victim.
“These violent crimes need to be stopped – must be stopped,” U.S. District Judge Max Cogburn Jr. said in sentencing Smith.
