Student charged with bringing gun onto Myers Park High campus
A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he brought a gun onto the campus of Myers Park High School.
Montez Jtrell Smallwood was charged with possession of a handgun by a minor and possession of a weapon on educational property. WCNC was the first to report the arrest.
Smallwood was being held in Mecklenburg jail late Tuesday. His bail information wasn’t available. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Myers Park High Principal Mark Bosco said the student came to campus “after school hours with a weapon,” according to WCNC.
In addition to the arrest, Smallwood will be disciplined according to CMS guidelines.
