2 teens arrested after gun, drugs found in car at Piedmont High in Monroe
Two teenagers were arrested after an officer found a handgun and marijuana in a car at Piedmont High in Monroe on Monday afternoon.
Acting on a tip, a school resource officer went to the car in which the two teens were sitting. The Union County sheriff’s officer smelled marijuana and found a .380 caliber handgun in the car.
The teens are students at other schools in the Union County system, investigators said.
Benito Bucio-Sanchez, 17, and the other student, who is a minor, were each charged with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of marijuana up to a half ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bucio-Sanchez is free on $2,000 bail. The other teen faces action in juvenile court.
