Authorities said an Albemarle couple brought a 9-year-old child with them when heroin was sold to an undercover officer in Rowan County this week.
Derek Ryan Talbert, 26, and Samantha Denise Beach, 25, were each charged with misdemeanor child abuse and conspiracy to traffic in more than 28 grams of opium/heroin.
Talbert also was charged with maintaining a vehicle for keeping and selling controlled substances.
Beach also was charged with possession of a schedule IV controlled substance – eight dosage units of Clonazepam, which is supposed to be used to treat seizure and panic disorders.

Jacob Adam Hatley, 22, also of Albemarle, was charged with conspiracy to traffic in more than 28 grams of opium/heroin and trafficking by possession and transportation of more than 28 grams of opium/heroin.
The arrests resulted from an undercover sting Wednesday by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Each suspect was jailed on $100,000 bail. The child was turned over to a family member.
