A man was charged in a hit-and-run that left another man dead in east Charlotte Monday morning.

The pedestrian was fatally struck around 2:30 a.m. on Central Avenue at Sharon Amity Road, closing the roadway until around 5:45 a.m.

A short time after the hit-and-run, Luis Fernando Perez-Rivera called 911 and said someone moved his Honda van from its parking spot on North Sharon Amity Road.

Police identified Perez-Rivera as the suspect and charged him with driving while impaired, felony death by vehicle and felony hit-and-run.

CMPD says the man was walking across Central Avenue in a well-lit area when he was hit. There was not a marked crosswalk present.

The pedestrian’s name will be released after his family has been notified of his death.
