School psychologist charged with assaulting student

Police in Monroe have charged a middle school psychologist with physically assaulting a student.

Dayle Kimball Rust II, 53, is charged with simple assault. He turned himself in to police on Wednesday after an investigation that started on Thursday.

Police have not identified the student or provided details about the incident. Officers were called to Monroe Middle School around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and “informed that a 14-year-old juvenile student was assaulted by a staff member of the school,” according to police.

After police and the school district investigated, an arrest warrant was issued for Rust.

Bond information wasn’t available Monday. Rust is scheduled to appear in court on April 6.
