Members of the North Carolina Army National Guard helped catch a suspect accused of trying to sexually assault a girl on a Kings Mountain street, police said.
The guard members happened to be in a nearby motor pool when the girl fought off her attacker and screamed for help, police said.
The girl was walking on West Gold Street about 2 p.m. Sunday when the attacker came up from behind and tried to assault her, police said.
The guard members and others detained the suspect on West Gold Street until police arrived.
Police arrested and charged Kyle Matthew Moore, 19, of Kings Mountain, with second-degree sexual offense and sexual battery. Moore was in the Cleveland County Detention Center on $100,000 bail Tuesday.
