Man charged in break-in of firefighter’s car at Mount Mourne Fire Department

A man previously charged in vehicle break-ins at Charlotte Fire Department stations has been arrested in the theft of a firearm from a firefighter’s car at the Mount Mourne Fire Department.

Iredell County sheriff’s investigators charged Johnny Laquinton Bing, 26, of Charlotte, with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny of a firearm. Bing was jailed on $25,000 bail.

The break-in and theft occurred Feb. 17 at the station on Mecklenburg Highway (N.C. 115). The firefighter was asleep in the station at the time, Sheriff Darren Campbell said.

Bing was initially charged by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in connection with break-ins and thefts from firefighters’ cars at five Charlotte Fire Department stations. Fifteen cars were broken into, police said.

Bing also has been charged in connection with thefts from vehicles at fire departments in Rowan and Guilford counties and Rock Hill, Campbell said.
