A Caldwell County woman was sentenced this week to at least 16 years in prison for fatally stabbing her husband.

Donna Thomas Harris, 56, of Hudson, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the April 2014 stabbing death of William Daniel Harris III.

Hudson police responded to a reported stabbing at an apartment complex and found William Harris with stab wounds to his chest and hand.

William Harris confirmed to officers that his wife had stabbed him. People tending to him at the scene told police that Harris said the same thing when he left the apartment where his wife was to seek help, prosecutors said.

Donna Harris previously served six years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in the February 2003 shooting death of Gary Wayne Hollar in Lenoir. She pleaded guilty in August 2004 and was released from prison in June 2010, prosecutors said.
