Monroe man sentenced to 18 years in child porn case

A Monroe man was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison this week for sending and receiving child pornography.

Gerald Lynn Weir Jr., 45, pleaded guilty in October to transportation of child pornography. He has been in federal custody since June.

In November 2013, law enforcement officers learned of a person, later identified as Weir, who was using an email address to send and receive child pornography.

Officers executed a federal search warrant for Weir’s email account. They found 66 emails related to child exploitation, including 42 videos and 136 images of children being sexually abused, prosecutors said.
