Charlotte man charged in Concord killing

Concord police have arrested a Charlotte man in the fatal shooting of Columbus “CJ” Simmons on Griffin Circle.

Shortly before 8 p.m. March 14, police responded to a call of a large crowd on Griffin Circle and found a man later identified as Simmons with a gunshot wound. Simmons died a short time later at Carolinas HealthCare System-Northeast.

Police charged Bryan Emmanuel Ward, 20, with second-degree murder. Ward was in the Cabarrus County Jail without bond Tuesday.

Police have not said what they believe led to the shooting.
