Officers responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call found a man dying of a gunshot wound in west Charlotte Tuesday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police haven’t released the victim’s name because they said they hadn’t notified his family late Tuesday. They also haven’t released what led up to the fatal shooting or details about a potential suspect.
No one has been arrested, but police say evidence at the scene indicated the killing wasn’t a random act of violence.

Investigators were canvassing the area Tuesday night, looking for witnesses. Crime scene investigators were also called to the scene to gather physical evidence.
