Police identify woman killed in single-car crash

A woman was speeding in northeast Charlotte before a single-vehicle crash that left her dead Thursday evening, police said.

Investigators identified the woman as 20-year-old Haylee Christine Hilton.

She was driving her 2013 Hyundai Sonata north on Pavilion Boulevard toward north Tryon street when she drove off the right side of the road and into a culvert. The car went airborne and flipped. Hilton, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pinned inside the car. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Officers closed part of Pavilion Boulevard as they investigated. Images from WBTV, the Observer’s news partner, showed Hilton’s Sonata flipped and on the side of the road.

Police have not determined whether Hilton was impaired or had been texting during the single-car crash.

Paramedics initially reported that two people had died in the 5:30 p.m. crash, but later revised their statement.

This crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 704-336-2677.
